We will be hosting a summer school during the week preceding ECC 2009, starting on Wednesday, August 19 and finishing on Saturday, August 22, 2009.  The summer school will be held on the University of Calgary campus, with lectures taking place in the Math Science building, room 431.

The following instructors are confirmed:

• Prof. Mark Bauer, University of Calgary
• Prof. Matthew Greenberg, University of Calgary
• Prof. Scott Vanstone, University of Waterloo
• Prof. Lawrence Washington, University of Maryland

Introductory topics on elliptic curves and cryptographic applications will be covered, with an emphasis on providing a strong background in support of the research talks at ECC.

Students interested in attending the summer school and applying for funding should submit the following materials:

• Short CV (listing scholarships etc)
• A copy of transcript(s), including grades
• Letter of support from supervisor
• Cover letter indicating amount of financial support required and other sources of funding secured.  We anticipate having at least partial funding available for most participants.

Please email the application materials to Helen Mortl (hjmortl@math.ucalgary.ca). The deadline for receiving complete applications is July 1, 2009.  Acceptance and funding decisions will be communicated by July 8, 2009.

Non-student participants (postdocs, faculty, etc...) should submit a CV and a brief research description.  Funding is intended for graduate student participants, but requests from non-students will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

We will arrange shared accommodations for successful funding applicants. If there is someone with whom you would prefer to share a room, please let us know in your application.
